DURBAN - Wentworth SAPS are investigating charges of murder and attempted murder after two men were shot, leaving one dead.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said it was alleged that at 12.15am on Sunday, two men were shot by unknown suspects who were travelling in a vehicle on Major Calvert Road in Wentworth, south of Durban.

"A 36-year-old man was shot in the neck and was declared dead at the scene. The deceased’s friend was grazed by bullets on the buttocks," Mbele said.

She said the suspects fled the scene in their vehicle.

She also said the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.

On Sunday night, PT Alarms said their PT Tactical K9 Unit responded to a call-out on Major Calvert Road in Wentworth, along with Wentworth SAPS, in the early hours of the morning.

It was determined that a man had been shot, and EMRS was in attendance with metro police.

"The victim was attended to by EMRS paramedics, but unfortunately, due to the extent of his injuries, he was declared deceased," PT Alarms said.

On Facebook, Deidre' Moore said “Rest in Peace Joel”.

The shooting came when many other shootings were reported in Wentworth since the start of the year.

A drive-by shooting was reported on Silvertree and Victor Lawler roads last week.

A shooting was reported on Tuin Road on January 20.

Another shooting on January 13 on Woodville Road.

At least three people were shot on Hime Street on January 12.
