DURBAN - A 40-year-old man is set to appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court for the alleged kidnapping and murder of a man who dated his ex-fiancée.

Sanda Dlamini, 26, was reported missing by his partner on October 28, 2021, when he did not return to his home in Umhlali, near Ballito, north of Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the missing case was later changed after investigations revealed the victim had been kidnapped.

“The Umhlali police opened a missing person docket which was later changed to a kidnapping one after an intensive investigation revealed the victim had been kidnapped.

“The Ilembe District Task Team together with Umhlali detectives followed up information which led them to the Greytown area where the suspect was hiding. On arrival at Greytown they received news that the suspect had relocated to Bizana in the Eastern Cape. On January 1, 2022, the police proceeded to the Bizana area where the suspect was located and questioned about Dlamini’s disappearance,” said Mbele.

The police later questioned the suspect, who allegedly revealed where he had buried the victim’s body.

“After a lengthy interrogation the suspect agreed to take the police to the bush along the R614 where he allegedly buried Dlamini. With the assistance of Umhlali Search and Rescue the skeletal remains were found in the bush. The suspect was then arrested and charged for kidnapping and murder,” said Mbele.
