DURBAN - THE death of KwaMashu businessman Skhumbuzo Manyoni has been described as a great loss not only to his family but residents of the township he helped.

The 58-year-old who died on Friday was involved in various business ventures and owned a petrol station in Esikhawini, near Richards Bay, where he also owned a house.

Manyoni owned several flats in Durban and Cape Town.

His brother, Xolani Manyoni, said Manyoni would be buried on Friday and the service would be held at Ekuvukeni Anglican Church, next to Poly Clinic, in KwaMashu.

On Thursday, a second memorial service was to be held for Manyoni at the United Congregational Church in K section. The first was held on Wednesday in Hlanganani J 1 Community Hall.

Xolani said his brother had a big heart.

He said he started the Skhumbuzo Manyoni Foundation through which he organised games for youth in order to keep them busy and away from drugs and crime.

Xolani said his brother’s loss had affected a lot of people.

He said Manyoni also helped senior citizens in old-age homes in the township.

“He also organised beauty pageants for grandfathers and grandmothers. These were good times and a laugh for everyone,” Xolani said.

Xolani said the Christmas holidays would be difficult for the family, and he recalled how Manyoni organised presents for people in the township.

“The family and KwaMashu community lost a breadwinner in Skhumbuzo. He was the person who believed that charity begins at home. He would not want to see a family member or a member of the community in need and would always help. The whole of KwaMashu and surrounding areas are mourning his death,” Xolani said.
