DURBAN - The MHLONGO family from Ntshongweni mission near Pinetown is appealing to the public for assistance in locating their mentally disturbed father, who went missing three weeks ago.

Bheki Joseph Mhlongo, 59, was last seen on December 8, and according to his daughter, Thandeka Mhlongo. he had said he was going to Zwelibomvu village, which is across the home village.

Thandeka said her father has been suffering from mental illness since 2000, but he had never gone missing.

“The last time I saw him, he had been nagging the family that he wanted to go to Zwelibomvu, but the family discouraged him because there were no relatives or his friends there,” Thandeka said.

She added that her father was not able to explain who he was visiting or who he knew in Zwelibomvu.

“We appeal to the public or anyone who knows the whereabouts of my father to please contact us or Mpumalanga police station, where we reported him missing. We have been to a lot of places, including Zwelibomvu, but we could not find him," said Thandeka.

She described her father as tall and dark in complexion.

She said when he left home, he was wearing cream pants, a white cap, white shoes and a white jacket.

She requested anyone seeing him to call Mpumalanga police on 031 771 8038.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the family reported the missing person in Mpumalanga SAPS.
