DURBAN - An elderly woman had to be airlifted to the hospital after she fell and injured her leg at a Midlands hotel.
Underberg Emergency Medical Services (UEMS) manager Kate Bodmann said after 12pm on Wednesday, they received a call from the Drakensberg Gardens Hotel manager informing them that someone had fallen and injured their leg.
“On arrival, paramedics found a 66-year-old woman that had stepped off a wall approximately 50cm in height and severely injured her left lower leg.
“Due to the nature of the injury she sustained and the likelihood of a threatened limb, a call was made to Netcare 911 flight desk,” Bodmann said.
Bodmann said the woman was stabilised by UEMS paramedics before being flown to a specialised medical facility in Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.
Last month, Bodmann said UEMS paramedics received a call from a hotel in the Underberg area stating that part of the roof had caved in, injuring a guest.
When paramedics arrived, they were led to the lounge area where part of the skirting had collapsed and landed on a couple.
“On assessment, a 27-year-old woman was fortunately found to only have sustained minor injuries and declined transport to hospital,” she said.
