DURBAN - Eight suspects are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday after they were arrested in two separate incidents for burglary, theft and aggravated robbery.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspects, aged between 24 and 39, were arrested by the Durban Central crime prevention unit.

“At 4.25am police responded to a report of burglary at a business premises in Lancers Road and proceeded to the scene where they caught four suspects in the act. The suspects aged between 31 and 39 were arrested and charged for burglary and theft,” Mbele said.

She said the suspects were also found with other items in their possession.

Mbele said in another incident on Wednesday at 7.20pm, police were patrolling on foot in the Syringa and Berea Avenue area when they observed four men pushing a 38-year-old man against the wall and removing his property.

“The suspects spotted the police and ran towards the direction of Syringa Road. Police gave chase and arrested all four suspects between the ages of 24 and 33 for robbery. Upon searching the suspects, police found okapi knives, a wallet and a black bag in their possession which were all positively identified by the complainant as his belongings,” Mbele said.

She said the four suspects were charged with robbery and possession of dangerous weapons.
