Cops nab suspect, 25, with 146 cough mixture bottles, dagga and cash

DURBAN – A 25-year-old man is appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court for contravening the Medicine Control Act.

The man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning by Mountain Rise SAPS and the Pietermaritzburg K9 Unit, who had been conducting an intelligence-driven operation.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said police were following up on information about a man selling medicine in the Mountain Rise policing area.

Gwala said the team pounced on the unsuspecting man on Bombay Road in Northdale.

“The 25-year-old man was found in possession of seven Broncleer medicine bottles, 146 Phoenorant Broncleer medicine bottles and loose dagga,” Gwala said.

“Cash of R20 430 was also seized from the suspect.”

Gwala said the man was arrested and would be appearing in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court for contravening the Medicine Control Act.
