DURBAN - Private security company, Blue Security, has paid tribute to their armed response officer, Simphiwe Innocent Ntaka, who was killed in the line of duty over the weekend while responding to a robbery.

Blue Security operations director Brian Jackson said Ntaka was killed on Saturday while responding to a robbery in Doonside, eManzimtoti, south of Durban.

Jackson said: “Officer Ntaka responded to an incident at Albarkat Supermarket in Doonside. Upon arrival, while conducting an inspection of the shop, a suspect opened the roller door and proceeded to shoot officer Nkaka multiple times at close range. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.”

Tribute to Ntaka:

Remembering Our Fallen Hero

The 47-year-old Armed Response Officer started his promising career at Blue Security a year ago.

Jackson added: “We would like to thank him for his valour and sacrifice as he laid down his life daily to keep KZN safe. Thank you, Innocent Simphiwe Ntaka, for your service and commitment to Blue Security and the communities you served and protected.”

“In these tough times, we hold our fallen hero and his family in our thoughts and prayers. Officer Ntaka is survived by his wife and daughter. We would also like to thank our security industry partners and the community for the heartfelt tributes pouring in.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it was alleged that on February 5 at 8.30pm, three men entered a shop and posed as customers.

Gwala said they suddenly drew firearms and demanded cash.

She said a panic button was pressed, and security officers responded. The suspects opened fire on the security officers.

“A 47-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body and was declared dead at the scene,” said Gwala.
