Research by a European search engine for travel bookings and price comparisons has revealed the real costs likely to be incurred by Boks fans at this year’s Rugby World Cup.
The website GoEuro.com believes Bok fans could spend anywhere from R70 000 up to R333 000, depending on their “commitment” to supporting the team and the lengths they were willing to go to save on costs and find a good deal.
The company said: “With some committed fans planning to attend every Springbok game during the World Cup, GoEuro.com has calculated that they will spend up to R333 353 getting to the UK and following their team around the country.”
It found that dedicated fans would splash out on tickets, accommodation, flights to get to the UK, food and beverages, flights getting to London and transport within the UK, as well as on transport and official team merchandise. Those wanting the full experience, but on a budget, could follow the Boks across the country and into the finals for as little as R70 763.
At the top end of the market, up to R82 955 would be spent on champagne lunches and gourmet dinners, with a further R33 468 spent on inner-city taxis. – Staff Writer
