Queen Mathubela, who is one of three finalists in the 2017 Championship Boerewors competition, says she is pleased to be the only woman dominating a “man’s job”.

Mathebula, from Limpopo; along with James Lebepe from Atteridgeville, Tshwane; and Moses Mathebule, from Limpopo; were announced as the finalists of the competition at the weekend.

Mathebula has been in the braai-making industry for four years.

“I entered the competition as I wanted to show people that I make the best boerewors and that I am capable of coming with a different taste of boerewors to South Africans

“I am very proud that I am the only woman dominating what is said to be ‘man’s job’. Being part of the top three finalists has not only made me feel happy but my kids too,” she said.

“I am looking forward not only to winning this competition but also to opening my own braai area and selling my own boerewors, but with different ingredients,” Queen Mathebula said.

Shoprite, which sponsors the event, said the competition was tough, but the recipes of Queen Mathebula, Lebepe and Moses Mathebula proved to be a cut above the rest.

The three were selected from a group of 18.

Queen Mathebula said it will be up to South Africans to buy, braai and vote for the recipe they believe deserves to win the coveted 25th Championship title.

This is the third year that the public is allowed to vote for their favourite boerewors.

By voting, one lucky consumer stands a chance of winning a new Toyota Aygo. The winner will be announced on September 13.
