RAISE a glass at the Cape Town Festival of Beer at Hamilton’s Rugby Club in Green Point from Friday to Sunday.

With 200 beers on show, brewing demonstrations, best beer awards, food and beer pairings and guided beer tours – there will be plenty to learn about the much-loved golden nectar. Collect stamps in your Beer Passport as you sample brews for free and stand a chance of winning prizes.

For the first time, the festival will be running a Giant Beer Pong tournament. Competitors will need to throw giant balls into 1.5m high cups. Enter a team on the Facebook page.

Brewers to look forward to include Lakeside Beerworks from Kommetjie. Sample their malty American Pale Ale, subtle roasted caramel Red Ochre Ale and banana/bubblegum Hefeweizen beer.

Triggerfish brewing, just outside Somerset West, grew out of brewer Eric van der Heerden’s passion for homebrewing. Their craft beer line-up includes six staple beers, with seasonal and one-off brews, like the Kraken, a 1 000 IBU beer.

Devils Peak Brewing combines tastes from the US and Belgium with an injection of Mother City flair. Expect rich flavour in their Woodhead Amber Ale, Kings Blockhouse IPA, First Light Golden Ale and Silvertree Saison.

Not only part-owner of the brewery that produces Robson’s Beer, Donn Stewart is also an advocate of responsible drinking and will cycle 1 972km from Shongweni in KZN to raise awareness. Hear about his travels and grab one of 100 special edition Double Indian Pale Ales which will be auctioned with funds going to the South Africans Against Drunk Drivers association.
