Cape Town - A group of senior women from around the country, otherwise known as the “My Spanish Dream Team” or the “Golden Girls El Camino Walkers”, hope to fulfil their shared dream of walking the last 100km from Sarria to Santiago of the El Camino in Spain next year and have been fundraising to help reach their goal.
“So far 11 women, coming from Parklands, Tableview, Philadelphia, and even from as far as Gauteng, Clarens in the Free State and Namibia, will each fulfil a life-time dream,” said golden girl Esther Bothma.
Some of the dreams that the women are hoping to achieve on this journey to Spain next year include striving to gain inner peace with their emotional battles, closure after losing loved ones during the pandemic, emotional and spiritual fitness to cope with tough times and, for some, just a lifelong dream to accomplish and feel they have done something out of the ordinary.
Marietjie Luyt said she was looking forward to connecting with herself on a new level physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The group will hold their next fundraising event on Saturday, at the Pepper Tree Art Stable and Coffee Shop in Philadelphia, where they will be helping those who suffer from hopelessness, depression, loneliness or even confusion to get “Back on Track” through a workshop facilitated by author Trudé Nell.
“This workshop equips one with emotional tools and life skills that can be helpful to cope with anxiety, depression and discouragement on many levels,” said Luyt.
The workshop will start at 2pm and end at 4pm at a cost R450 per person, and includes snacks, lunch, and tea and coffee.
