Cape Town - In support of organisations working to make a difference in their local communities, staff members from GrandWest facilitated the donation and sponsoring of essential care packs that were handed over to four Cape Town-based non-profit organisations yesterday.

The beneficiaries – Cansa Tygerberg Care Home based at the Tygerberg Hospital in Parow, the Cheshire Home and Ikhaya Labantu in Langa and Melela 4 Children – each received specially made care packs to suit the needs of their members.

The initiative was part of GrandWest’s Share the Warmth community upliftment drive which was founded to source and collect warm blankets, clothes, shoes, toiletry packs, as well as food, that would then be donated to organisations working with people in need.

The Cansa Tygerberg Care Home received toiletry care packs for their 20 patients as well as linen, sheets and towels, while the Langa Cheshire Home received clothing and winter blankets for its members.

The Langa Cheshire Home, which is based in an impoverished and socially challenged community, currently provides accommodation and care to 26 differently-abled persons.

Ikhaya Labantu, a social welfare centre in Langa, received a donation of clothing and winter blankets as well as linen sheets and perishable foods.

Melela 4 Children received a donation of clothing for 100 severely underprivileged learners they assist. All of whom lack proper school uniforms and other clothing.

Melela 4 Children chief executive Thabiso Maphanga said: “The donation by GrandWest was towards our winter box drive, whereby we collect clothes and other essential items, uniforms as well, for underprivileged children to ensure that they have warm clothes to wear and use during the harsh winter.

“We are so grateful for all the donations and campaigns by different persons and companies who worked with us because we were able to reach and surpass our target this year,” said Maphanga.
