The Cape Cultural Collective (CCC) will begin its 2025 concert series with Rhythms of Freedom, featuring the Little Giants, the inspirational Rosa Choir, including an extract from the powerful Shakespeare to Gaza and two incredible dancers, Darion Adams and Tamsyn Pretorius.
The Little Giants, has been around for more than two decades and was established in 1999 by jazz icons, George Werner and the late Ezra Ngcukana, who are renowned for their infectious energy and musical mastery. They will deliver a performance that blends jazz and contemporary sounds, sure to delight audiences of all ages.
The dancers are representing AIM Society, founded by Darion Adams in 2023. Arts in Manenberg (AIM), which expresses the objective of innovating and engaging the community, through arts as the centre point of its activities.
Darion and Tamsyn Pretorius will be showcasing their dance prowess, bringing their unique style and energy to the stage.
Shakespeare to Gaza is a thought-provoking performance piece, responding to a call from the Ramallah based ASHTAR Theatre to global artists to perform the Gaza Monologues in response to the genocide that has unfolded in Gaza since 2023. Six members of the original cast will perform an extract from this powerful and moving production.
The CCC’s Rosa Choir, whose name originates from the traditional “Rosa” song, sings in English, Afrikaans and Xhosa.
Its membership is drawn from across the racial, spatial, class and gender divides that continue to characterise our city.
Zenariah Barends, board member of the CCC said: “We are incredibly excited to launch our 2025 concert series with “Rhythms of Freedom".
“This concert is a testament to the power of art to provoke, unite and inspire. “We are honoured to showcase the incredible talent of these diverse performers and to celebrate the spirit of freedom through the arts.”
The CCC, now in its 18th year, unites people, communities and promotes individual and collective development through the Arts.
The CCC has nine arts projects that are all growing in scope and impact.
The concert takes place on Sunday, April 6 at 3pm at the Novalis Ubuntu Institute in Wynberg.
