Yellow maize climbs for third day

Johannesburg - Yellow-corn futures traded in South Africa, the continent’s largest corn producer, gained for a third straight session.

Yellow corn for delivery in December, the most active contract, rose 0.6 percent to 2,171 rand ($217) a metric ton by the close on the South African Futures Exchange in Johannesburg.

The advance was the sixth in seven sessions. White corn for the same delivery month added 0.5 percent to 2,361 rand a ton.

Animal feed is the main use for yellow corn in South Africa, while a meal made from the white variety is a staple food in the country.

Wheat for delivery in December climbed 0.1 percent to 3,468 rand a ton. - Bloomberg News
