Johannesburg - White maize advanced to the highest price in more than three months in South Africa.

The white maize contract for delivery in December gained for a third day, rising 2.1 percent to 1,829 rand a metric ton by the midday close on the South African Futures Exchange in Johannesburg.

That’s the highest closing price for a most-active contract since June 23.

South Africa is the continent’s largest producer of the grain where white maize is used to make staple food, while the yellow type is mainly fed to animals.

The yellow variety gained 1.7 percent to 1,839 rand a ton, the highest in a week.
